In high school, I had these grand thoughts about myself. I’d ditch my classes and sit up on my bed then rub my sleeping girlfriend’s butt. Then at those moments I pondered on the intricate details of my world domination and/or future professional basketball career while chewing on a Sour Power…

This. This tiny little packet of twenty eight pills is $108.99 worth of not being pregnant. Without insurance. With insurance, it costs anywhere from $80-$20. Per MONTH. That equates to $1,307.88 per year, without insurance. That’s fucking ridiculous. It should NOT cost that much to prevent unwanted pregnancies. And with Planned Parenthood losing more and more funding every year, how do they expect women to be able to afford this? Oh yeah. They don’t. Our country and the insurance companies and the pharm companies that are in charge here don’t give a shit. Our country seems to want all women to be completely co-dependent, barefoot, knocked up, and making them a goddamn sammich. You would think, that as time goes by, society would progress, rather than regress. I guess that’s too much to ask. I guess it’s too much to ask that They make things like contraceptives more readily accessible, rather than taking them away. They bitch about the teen pregnancy and STD rates in this country, but They refuse to DO anything about it. They’d rather sit back on Their ignorant, fat asses and exacerbate the problem by taking away funding and raising the price on everything to do with reproductive health and making the basic, HUMAN act of sex COMPLETELY taboo.Oh, society… And we were making such progress in decades past…
Forgive my rant, but I’m kinda upset about nonsense like this.

I had to stop taking bcps because they got to be too expensive WITH insurance.  Now that I don’t have insurance, I can’t imagine affording these each month.  I’d consider affording a regular prescription of them a luxury.  How sad.

Reblogging to add that I have stellar, bells and whistles, we cover it all, in-network, out-of-network, let-me-take-care-of-that-for-you GOLD-PLATED insurance that costs my family approximately $120/month out of pocket.
And my generic birth control still costs $100/28-day pack.
Oh, America - you so crazy.

I know BCPs come in a huge range but Lordamercy I had no idea they could be so expensive. I’ve been on it for 10 years now (holla at ya girl, dysmenorrhea) and even without insurance my packs were $30 per month. Granted when I didn’t have insurance or a full time job, PP did me a real solid, especially when all the other free clinics were trying to make me switch to a different pill.

From the age of 15 to 22 ( When I became pregnant with Kiddo ) I was on HBC to help control my extremely painful symptoms of endometriosis. For many of those years, Planned Parenthood provided me with my medication, check ups, and information on other treatments. They were there when I had insurance and they were there to help me when I didn’t have insurance.
But, yeah, slash those funds! That’ll make jobs! oh wait…

:| this is disgusting. BC being free and on demand makes complete sense - it’s the one thing England has managed to get right. What even the fuck, America.

"Rowling wrote Hermione to eschew stereotypes. She doesn’t end up with the hero; she is never there to function as Harry’s love interest. She prefers Arithmancy to Divination in school. Hermione is also a total badass, despite her prim and proper reputation. (…) So often, female characters are allowed to be aggressive or rebellious, but in exchange are stripped of any traditionally feminine qualities and instead are forced to pick up traditionally masculine traits. However, Hermione is never made to do that. Most notably, she is written to be highly logical AND emotionally expressive, a combination not commonly afforded to most of today’s leading ladies."

Liz Feuerbach, The Women of The Harry Potter Universe (via writingadvice)

TPN: I’m not going to lie, as a bookish young grade-school feminist, Hermione Granger was definitely my spirit animal. It’s genuinely rare to see girls portrayed like she’s portrayed, as someone with an intense range of individuality, passion and capabilities, whose life doesn’t follow the stereotype (because, let’s face it, no one’s does). Being unapologetic about the things you love and the person you are isn’t something promoted often enough for anyone, but very much so for girls.

Kid Meets First Gay Couple

I’ve never seen a husband and a husband… you must love each other… I want to play ping pong… you can play too.

And that ladies and gents is how simple things could be.

Happy Tuesday :)

Because when we find ourselves believing that killing a man makes us more of a man, but loving a man makes us less of a man, it’s probably time to reexamine our criteria for manhood.

WTF??? This is just a bold face lie. How the hell could a child who’s parents could be a) sold off based on master’s whim, b) pimped out as breeders to dozens of other slaves to increase the owner’s wealth, c) raped repeatedly for the amusement of others or d) be more likely to die in childbirth, commit infanticide, be STRUNG UP BY THEIR OWNERS be raised in some bullshit, two-parent household ideal of the perfect American family? 100% of profits from the sale of this necklace will be donated to Planned Parenthood. Click here to purchase.
The hanger has sadly become a symbol of the pro-choice movement, reminding us of the horrors women endure when abortion access is restricted. I have encountered, first hand, during my time interning for a local Planned Parenthood, the horrors some women have experienced while attempting to exercise choice before it was legal. I also know a wide variety of women who rely heavily on Planned Parenthood as their primary source of health care.
Despite the fantastic things that Planned Parenthood does these wonderful, necessary things, they are constantly under attack. And it’s looking like the Planned Parenthood I interned for in Kansas is now going to be the last abortion provider standing in Kansas after the latest round of policy changes. These policies are the Jim Crow laws of women’s rights. We can’t stand for this.
I can’t explain the frustration of escorting frightened women through hoards of pro-life people who block doorways, yell curses, pray, and cry for an unborn child they’d ignore if it were ever brought to term. I’ve worked with beautiful children who are tangled in a mess of foster care, children who constantly get the shaft by these pro-lifer’s who would rather have their own offspring than adopt one of these kids. I heard the threats, had my license plates photographed, was told I was going to Hell on a near daily basis. It’s an underground war. We all try to ignore it, but it’s worse than you’d expect, unless you’d seen it first hand.
That’s why I began making these necklaces. I needed to find a way to raise money while doing something I love - creating things. With the purchase of this necklace, $15 will be donated to Planned Parenthood where it will be distributed to wherever the need is greatest. These donations will help provide low-income women with access to much needed healthcare treatment and prevention services. Since opening shop a few months ago, I’ve raised $280. Help me keep up the momentum!

Definitely buying one of these on payday!
